The flag was designed "to encompass the experiences of aroaces who don't separate their attraction in their minds," which explains the absence of purple for asexuality and green for aromanticism. It is intended to represent anyone within the asexual and aromantic spectrum.[5] The specific meanings of the "Sunset" flag are as follows:
Orange: Community. Similar to the use of blue, orange falls between the green of aromanticism and the purple of asexuality. It represents "both our unity as aroaces and our places within the aro and ace communities."
Yellow: Love and relationships that exist outside of more conventional ideas of romantic and sexual relationships.
White: Integrity. This is meant to represent aroaces who are "aplatonic, nonamorous, or not seeking partnership," and also "how we are all whole individuals on our own."
Two shades of Blue: Represents "aroace identity as well as identities and experiences within the aroace spectrum." The choice of this color is meant to bridge the gap between the green of aromanticism and the purple of asexuality.
